Education & Advocacy Support for Youth-workers
EASY is an online legal advocacy training project for youth-workers.
EASY aims to build community-level capacity for effective assistance of children and young people with legal issues. We believe that improved outcomes are achieved for children, young people and families if informed assistance & advocacy support is available to them.
The EASY project will:
- bring a child-rights perspective to the provision of advocacy services for children and young people;
- demystify the law and demonstrate its effectiveness as an advocacy tool;
- contribute to the professional development of youth-workers nationwide through training and ongoing support.
The EASY project offers youth-workers:
- Practical & accessible training in advocacy through self-contained e-learning modules that youth-workers can work through at their own pace at their own place;
- A library of useful legal and advocacy related resources, to which youth-workers may add further documents;
- The incorporation of discussion boards where youth-workers can share experiences, support each other, discuss issues and develop best practice models;
- The ability to access free legal advice from community law centres for individual advocacy cases;
- The opportunity to learn about online tools for cost effective community development.
- EASY was built by YouthLaw Tino Rangatiratanga Taitamariki Inc, in partnership with the Ministry of Economic Development’s Digital Strategy, the Legal Services Agency, and key project partners.
The Digital Strategy is New Zealand’s five year action plan to maximise the opportunities that Information and Communications Technologies (ICT) bring.
Through the Community Partnership Fund, the Digital Strategy has enabled the creation of the EASY project.
The Legal Services Agency is responsible for helping people access justice, by funding Legal Aid, Initial Criminal Legal Services, community law centres, and producing law-related education and information.
The LSA is YouthLaw’s core funder and have supported the development of the EASY project since inception and provided us with extra funds to kick start the project.
YouthLaw is very grateful to the Legal Services Agency for seeing the potential of the EASY project and being confident enough in YouthLaw to help us develop it.
